Hilarey Wojtowicz is a writer, editor and content/social media strategist. She is currently the editor of The Balance, a personal finance website within the Dotdash media portfolio. As a career enthusiast and personal finance guru, she has experience covering popular topics including side hustles, entrepreneurship, professional development, budgeting and debt payoff strategies, saving money, investing, career and financial apps, technology and more. Hilarey also enjoys growing brands and social media followers, developing content partnerships, working on affiliate marketing strategies, streamlining company operations and processes, and so much more.

Hilarey most recently worked as the senior career and finance editor for Swirled, a millennial women’s lifestyle website. While there, she wrote and edited articles, crafted a social media strategy for career and finance content, and launched two weekly newsletters — Savvy Saver and Side Hustle — that grew to 5,000+ subscribers within just a few weeks.

Her career experience spans time at Meredith Xcelerated Marketing, Bankrate.com as editor of The Cashlorette, Doorsteps.com, a website powered by realtor.com and other digital media companies.

Over the years, she’s learned that she truly thrives in a startup environment where can genuinely help grow a brand and company in every sense of the word. Hilarey feels most empowered when she can inspire others, spread the word of her company’s mission and act as the connector between companies and people who can truly benefit from working together.

Hilarey also teaches social media analytics at her alma mater, The College of New Jersey. She completed her Masters in Journalism at the University of Missouri’s Graduate School of Journalism in December 2017, and is excited to apply it to teaching college students for years to come.

Hilarey is on the board of New York Women in Communications, Inc. (NYWICI). She serves as the co-VP of the Student Affairs Committee, where she coordinates and plans monthly and annual events for college students, such as the Student Communications Career Conference every November. In April 2016, Hilarey was awarded the coveted NYWICI Foundation Scholarship through New York Women in Communications, Inc., which she was able to apply to her graduate degree.

Hilarey is interested in all things career and professional development. She is a mentor to several college students and recent graduates in the Tri-State area, and participates in mentoring programs, events and more as often as she can. In her free time, Hilarey likes to go to concerts and the beach, read books, and spend time with family and friends. She lives in New Jersey, just outside of New York City, with her boyfriend.
